Forklift Tire Options

There are several forklift tire options available, including cushion, pneumatic, and non-marking tires, each suited to different environments and tasks. Choosing the right tire depends on factors like whether the forklift operates indoors or outdoors, load capacity, traction requirements, and the need to reduce wear or resist debris.

Some forklifts require specific tires, but if there are no restrictions, it's essential to understand which tire options work best for your needs and operating environment.

Forklift Cushion Tires

Cushion tire forklifts use tires made by bonding rubber to a metal base band. They are smaller than pneumatic tires, providing a tighter turning radius, ideal for most indoor applications, especially in narrow aisles. While primarily for indoor use, they can handle light outdoor work on smooth surfaces.

Polyurethane cushion tires are also available, offering about 64% more load capacity and lower rolling resistance to extend battery life and reduce fuel use. However, their small footprint and hardness result in poor traction and minimal suspension.

Forklift Pneumatic Tires

Pneumatic tire forklifts provide better flotation, resulting in improved ride comfort and traction on most surfaces, making them ideal for heavy-duty outdoor applications. These tires typically feature deep treads, reinforced sidewalls, and durable rubber. They can also be foam-filled to prevent downtime caused by punctures.

For environments with debris, solid pneumatic tires are another option. These tires, shaped like air-filled ones but made from solid rubber compounds, are designed to perform well in tough conditions like recycling, scrap metal, and demolition sites.

Forklift Non-Marking Tires

Pneumatic and cushion forklift tires are available in a non-marking compound, ideal for environments where cleanliness is crucial and floors must be kept spotless. Instead of Carbon Black, these tires use Hydrated Silicas to prevent residue from sticking to the floor. However, non-marking tires typically have about 25% shorter lifespan compared to regular marking tires.
