A forklift battery PPE kit should include essential safety gear to protect workers from battery acid and other hazards. Proper use of PPE ensures safety when handling and maintaining forklift batteries, reducing the risk of injury.
Regular maintenance of your electric forklift battery or electric forklift motor can increase your fuel economy dramatically by allowing the battery to have a longer life cycle – even beyond the warranty period. To keep associates safe while performing regular maintenance of the forklift battery watering level, personal protective equipment (PPE) is required to safely complete the job. These associates are at risk for acid splashes, acid spills and corrosive burns.
Your PPE kit should include two layers of eye protection, such as goggles and a face shield. Goggles cover above and below the eyes, deflecting liquid splashes, while the face shield adds a second layer of skin protection. Use rubber or neoprene gloves to prevent contact with acid, and a flashlight to safely inspect the battery. Include printed instructions for battery maintenance, and ensure all associates receive proper training. Additional tools like a rubber apron, battery cap remover, cleaner, and acid neutralizer can enhance protection.
Your battery watering and charging station must be a designated location in the warehouse. The PPE kit should also be in this area and maintained, quickly replacing any broken or damaged items.
